From time-to-time, we like to feature early-stage startups and their founders to highlight some of the amazing work they have done. Today we are highlighting Fireflies.ai and it’s Co-Founders Sam Udotong and Krish Ramineni.

Having been rapidly thrust into our new WFH/Remote work dynamic, many companies and professionals were poorly equipped for the world of remote meetings. This presented an opportunity for Fireflies.ai, which had been in development since 2016, as Udotong and Ramineni saw it back then, their bot would act as a secretary — sitting in on meetings, understanding conversations, and taking and organizing useful notes that were searchable at any time.

Similar to how Gong.io operates to help cross-share insights from sales calls across members of a sales team, Fireflies.ai will cross-share meeting notes and insights for internal meetings. If Gong.io is any indication, the business model works, Gong recently raised $200M lead by Coatue Management. This potential was recognized by Udotong, Ramineni, and Canaan Ventures who recently lead a $5M Seed Round into Fireflies.ai.

Fireflies.ai integrates into many of the most popular video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, GoToMeeting, and several others. Fireflies records any meeting you want and uses AI to transcribe the meeting audio into text transcripts. Imagine being able to take the transcript from a meeting and turn it into a roadmap or a company memo? Saving you time on taking notes during the meeting, so you can focus on having an in-depth conversation.

With our current and potentially semi-permanent WFH and remote work dynamic, Fireflies.ai is positioned well to continue strong growth as companies look to integrate new technologies to help adapt to this new dynamic. It will be interesting to see how their AI-powered dictation software is adapted beyond meeting notes and what other value-props the Fireflies.ai team can capture.
